Merry Christmas...2009!

The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree:
the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.
 ~Burton Hillis

Spent a fantastic evening with this branch of the family...spaghetti, WII boxing, pink Zhu Zhu pets, flying Vectrons....finished it off with a Skype conversation to the East coast with Uncle Kevin and Aunt Ashley.  It was almost like having them here...watching them on the computer screen!  A Christmas to remember, indeed!

Laughter!

Laughter is the shortest distance between two people. ~Victor Borge

On a recent visit to Colorado, Grandpa Joe and Miss K share a laugh...and his one and only chance to see his little  Princess in her   Sooners cheerleader dress! (It was snowing... or her Dad would have only let her wear it outside!)   He's taking this"not so winning season" in  stride..takes a lot of teasing about it...but  will NEVER give up hope for his Sooners.  More lessons for our grandkids from Grandpa Joe...stand by what you believe in...through thick and thin.  And know that he'll be doing that for all of you...all your lives!  We're anxious to see all of you we can over the Thanksgiving holiday.....the turkeys thawing in the fridge as I type!

Meet Miss K M !

We witness a miracle every time a child enters into life.
But those who make their journey home across time & miles,
growing within the hearts of those who wait to love them,
are carried on the wings of destiny
and placed among us by God's very own hands.
Kristi Larson

You have SO many waiting to love you..
welcome to the family, little K
we're so lucky to belong to you!

Seeing the wind...

It's usually true that you can't see the wind....unless it touches something! Well...it touched plenty this time! It proved to us that unbendable steel does, indeed bend! Lately, the music outside our window sounds like a chain saw! Thanks to all who came to help....it's starting to look like the summer paradise it used to!

Summers end....

Enjoy yourself.
These are the good old days
you're going to miss in the years ahead.
~ Author Unknown ~
These were the last days of summer....truck rides, hauling tree branches, mini golfing, baseball, playing with Gus, donut mornings and zoo afternoons. I am going to miss these slow summer days so much....they grow up way too fast. Have a good school year, kids! Grandma and Grandpa love you!

Summer Days...

While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about.
Angela Schwindt
There's nothing like a summer day filled with grandchildren to remind you of what life is all about...giggles and golfing and pizza and lazer quest....topped with Gatorade and a phone call to tell us our little band of travelers will soon be joined by the sweetest little girl! I'll not soon forget the sounds of five little voices chanting "Grandma...Grandma...Grandma" as I whacked that crazy golf ball into the hole to win them a free game of golf.....the sight of five little faces with traces of pizza sauce and pop on the corners of their mouths....the groan of five little souls as I asked them to pose for just one more picture....and the peels of laughter as they raced each other up and down the gym at Grandpa's work! Thanks, kids....for reminding Grandma..and Grandpa...of what matters most!

Advice From Gus....

The best way to get a puppy is to beg for a baby brother
and they'll settle for a puppy every time.
Winston Pendelton
Dear kids...
play hard, do well in school, come visit...
and bring treats!

Giggles...

Giggles...secrets...sometimes tears.....
brothers and sister...through the years!

Turn Grandma loose with three little kids and a camera...and this is the result! My amateur attempts at a photo shoot...couldn't love it more! (Look out T and N...I'm headed for you next!)

Welcome Home....

A family is where most of our joy comes from!

Home for a visit from the East coast.....a fast and furious six days...but what good times! Ashley's first Nebraska visit included a Larry the Cable Guy concert, brief stops at Valentinos, Amigos and Runza and Tecumseh...and several tours of area cornfields! We enjoyed your visit very much, kids. (And Ashley wanted to share that she is the basketball champion!....sorry T and N!)

Father Daughter dancin....

Meet Kim, Tinker Bell and Mary Poppins Side Kick!
On Mother's Day, we were treated to a Cheer - Tumbling - Dance recital. It was the end of the year event for little K...but to make his daughter..and wife happy, Bill joined a group of Dads to learn a dance routine for "Step In Time" fun. (you can find the bootleg video for the historic event on Kim's Facebook page). Kim was the backstage hair and make up Queen, Tinker Bell amazed us with her cartwheels and Pink Diamond cheering...and Bill dazzled us with his dancin ability. (Kevin is notifying Chip and Dales that new talent is soon available!) The program was fun...and Grandpa treated the tiny dancer to her very own pink roses.

Almost 12...

but going on 20!
What a handsome , smart young man he's become! He can text with flying fingers, keeps us updated on Facebook...and has his summer lined up with basketball camps and baseball. He still smiles patiently at his old Grandma as she snaps yet another picture...we love you lots, T!

Mr. Funny Face

When I grow up, I want to be a little boy!
This picture of N, getting harder and harder to take...reminds me of something my Mother used to say..."don't make those funny faces or your face will freeze that way!". I guess if it's the only pictures he'll let Grandma take, he'll have them posted for all the world to see! We love you, N...funny faces or not!

May Day 2009

May your heart be as light as a song!

May 1, 2009...the May day celebration at school. On a windy Friday, the first day of May, I watched and laughed and danced and photographed...as the children celebrated spring in a grand way! Held every other year, 2009 found two grandsons in the celebration. A great time...good entertainment...and it ended with the kids having a great laugh as their teachers did a little dance for them!

Catching up...in April

Photos from the family tree in Denver....Chad and Susan and Guido and Grandpa Joe...waiting patiently (on most days) for the day they can go to get little K. Recently, we've been treated to some new photos and she just gets cuter and cuter. And for us...we're patiently waiting for the day we can get her picture on here for all of you to see! She has the most beautiful eyes....they just capture your heart! Until then, little Guido fills their days...and their hearts with love!

Guido says "hi kids"

Thinks he's a parrot?, originally uploaded by banjoechronicles.

Happiness is a warm puppy. ~Charles M. Schulz

To all his kids in Nebraska, Guido says "hi" and sends you a lick for your face! He loved crawling up on Grandpa Joe's shoulder and sitting there like a parrot..even in the car. He went for a drive in the mountains with us, and spent most of the time on Grandpa's shoulder. He's a 4 pound heart breaker!

Little girls....

Super Spellers!

Placing 2nd in the City (in the 6th / 7th and 8th grade division), T missed only the word "minaret". He received a 50$ bill (which he planned to save most of for his college fund) and a dictionary for his efforts...and looked up the word to tell us what it meant....
(–noun : a lofty, often slender, tower or turret attached to a mosque, surrounded by or furnished with one or more balconies, from which the muezzin calls the people to prayer.)
We found an old scrapbook that showed us his Aunt Susan was a super speller at his age also. Great traits run in the family, huh? All I can say is that only a spell checker keeps me spelling correctly....and I could never have stood so bravely up in the front of a room like either of these super spellers did...I'm proud of them both!

Busy looks like....

This is one busy third grade boy! You rarely find him without a basketball in his hand....and he knows how to use it! Not much for kisses...when they ask him to tell us good bye, he lifts a hand and waves and says "see ya!" (But I can still catch him for an occasional hug!) Grandma & Grandpa can still make him smile with a little candy...or a new pack of Upper Deck football cards.

Virginia Update...

Update from Virginia....K & A.....still hard at work for the US Navy...next deployment in 2010.....hoping for sunny beach days!

Snow Day!

Six inches of fresh snow, three new sleds, three excited children....mix them all together, add one willing Dad and two crazy grandparents.....you get one great Saturday afternoon for picture taking! Two hours later...we left wet, cold...and with over 200 pictures on the Nikon!

Happy Birthday, T!

Happy Birthday to a sweet 2 year old, T!

Happy Birthday, K!

Happy
Birthday!
From 9 weeks early...to 9 years old, what a ride! A year of firsts...first time to drive Grandpa's tractor, first time to learn to shoot a BB gun...he's growing into a very nice young man. May you never loose your wild and crazy spirit, K...(but it'd be ok if you learn to show it a little quieter!) We love you!

Hot Shots...

Sports do not build character. They reveal it.
Heywood Brown

Ever the serious athlete, N has found his place in another sport! He's got game...he's a great little shooter....rebounds with the best of them. A well spent, snowy Sunday afternoon! Way to shoot, N!

Hoop Dreams...

This was a nail biter game! Hard, fast basketball with young men who know their sport and play it well. A game won in the last seconds, a game well played...Good job, T! Your shots are spot on!

Nothin but net....

C's first basketball game! 10 little boys, running full speed in brand new shoes, stopping to high 5 their team mates when a basket is made. Two brave coaches, introducing these first graders to the sport. One Saturday morning well spent!

Laughter...

A good laugh and a long sleep are
the best cures in the doctor's book.
~Irish Proverb
Little Miss M has one of the two down well...now if she'd just get the long sleep part learned, her Mom and Dad would be very happy!
